The incredible opportunities for riding are part of why the region is home to the Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY24, a diverse team of women and girls who are elite professional and amateur cyclists, specializing in various disciplines of road & gravel cycling, mountain biking, and Zwift eSports.

Featured Routes for Road Biking & Cycling

Roanoke Greenway Biking

While almost any road is great for cycling in Virginia's Blue Ridge, these three routes stand out as prime opportunities for exploring on your bike.

  • Blue Ridge Parkway - As "America's Favorite Drive," the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the best routes in the world for cycling. The scenic beauty of the road, combined with broad ranges of elevation, provide an incredible biking experience.
  • Roanoke Valley Greenways - Over 30 miles of paved Greenways wind through the Roanoke Valley, offering wonderful options for riders of all skill levels. Many portions of the Greenway system are located along the Roanoke River and near public parks, serving as great places to relax. Roanoke Mountain Adventures is located along the Roanoke River Greenway and offers bike rental services.
  • TransAmerica Bicycle Trail - The final portion of this 4,228-mile cross country ride makes its way through Virginia's Blue Ridge. The route, also known as U.S. Bike Route 76, winds along the mountains through Botetourt County.  

Group Rides

Local cycling organizations regularly organize and host group rides that are open to visitors. These group rides serve as the perfect opportunity to ride on some of the region's best routes while getting to know the locals who help make this such a fantastic place for biking.
