Some of the hottest events of the year happen during the summer in the Roanoke Region in Virginia's Blue Ridge.

The following is a list of some of our most popular annual summer events in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Salem RidgeYaks Baseball - April - September

Cheer on the local baseball team in Virginia's Championship City during your next visit. Their home at the Salem Memorial Ballpark is surrounded by a stunning mountain backdrop and has been recognized as one of the best views in minor league baseball. Formerly the Salem Red Sox, the team's new identity embodies the spirit of the region - be sure to pick up some branded merchandise during your stay!

Concerts by Canoe - June - August (Various Dates)

Grab an inner tube, canoe, boat, or standup paddleboard and float on Philpott Lake while you are serenaded by live music from the stage on the dock.

Juneteenth Celebration  - June

History and culture blend together each year during the Juneteenth Celebration at the Booker T. Washington National Monument. During the event, you will be treated to gospel music concerts, family activities, a selection of food vendors, and various tours and presentations. 

Southwest Virginia Antique Farm Days - June

Get an authentic Southern experience without traveling too far with tractor pulls, antique farm equipment, and live demonstrations of classic techniques such as blacksmithing, quilting, baling, and even cornmeal grinding.

Buchanan Community Carnival - June - July

Iconic summer fun awaits in the small and scenic Town of Buchanan in Botetourt County. The Buchanan Community Carnival is a beautiful setting along the edge of the James River and features traditional fair food, fireworks, amusement rides, carnival games, and live music.

Star City Motor Madness - June

Over 300 cars cruise in the Downtown Roanoke area with special parking for collector cars at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Enjoy the show, explore the museum, listen to live music, and browse vendors all weekend long.

Salem Fair - July

Complete your budget-friendly getaway at the largest free-admission fair in Virginia, which features approximately 40 amusement rides, over 30 food vendors, and lots of free shows and exhibits. 

USA Cycling Endurance Mountain Bike National Championship - July

Enjoy a week of incredible mountain biking in Virginia's Blue Ridge. The Roanoke Region welcomes top athletes and teams from around the country, including multiple Olympians and members of the U.S. National Team, for multiple days of racing across various mountain biking disciplines. Races take place at Hollins University, Carvins Cove, Downtown Roanoke's Elmwood Park, and Roanoke County's Explore Park, and it's a great event for spectators.

Floatilla to Starr Hill(a) - July

Bring along a tube, kayak, or paddleboard and head to Roanoke Mountain Adventures and gear up for a relaxing summer float down the Roanoke River. Cool off on the water as you make your way to Starr Hill Pilot Brewery for the epic post-float party.

Smith Mountain Lake Pirate Days - July

Immerse yourself in pirate life on the lake and enjoy themed festivities, such as black powder cannon firings, water battles, theatrical performances, face painting, and more. Get in your best outfit and attend the Pirate's Ball to compete against other scallywags in the costume contest.

Big Lick Comic Con - August

Movie buffs and comic fans gather at the Berglund Center during the summer in Virginia's Blue Ridge. This two day long event features meet and greets, panel discussions, gaming, and more. Dress up in your best cosplay and shop unique vendors with rare collectibles and merchandise. 

Festival of India  - August

Join the India Heritage Society in Elmwood Park and experience cultural performances, authentic Indian cuisine, and shop for traditional clothing, jewelry, and spices. Relax with a yoga demonstration or participate in a meditation session while you explore the vibrant culture of India.

Franklin County Agricultural Fair - August

Celebrate the county's agricultural history and enjoy livestock shows, tractor competitions, Appalachian music, rides, and games. Vote for a winner at competitive produce exhibits and compete in unique events such as the Ladies' Frying Pan Toss and the Handsome Man Beard & Mustache Contest.

Reggae by the River - August

Set up a lawn chair and a picnic blanket and jam out to live music along the James River in Buchanan. Bring the whole family to enjoy the kids' zone while you chow down on chili burgers and world famous fries and tie-dye your very own customized festival t-shirt.

Roanoke Wing Fest - August

Experience the largest one-day food festival in Virginia's Blue Ridge! Taste chicken wings from over 20 different vendors as you listen to live music, drink beer, play games, and compete in contests.
