The Salem Red Sox have captivated fans in Virginia's Blue Ridge by swinging for the fences and bringing a high level of professional baseball to the region since 1955 under many names — Rebels, Pirates, Redbirds, Buccaneers, and Avalanche.

In 2009, they became affiliated with the Boston Red Sox as a Minor League Baseball team and have since gone by the Salem Red Sox name. The Red Sox have clinched four division titles and the 2013 league championship.

Adding a game or two to your Virginia's Blue Ridge itinerary is an ideal way to level up your visit. The Salem Red Sox stadium, Carilion Clinic Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark, is nothing short of a grand slam, and the energy inside is infectious.

The $10.1 million state-of-the-art ballpark has a seating capacity of 6,300, sky boxes, boasts striking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and even has a to-scale wiffle ball field replica of Fenway Park equipped with its outfield wall, including the iconic left field Green Monster.

The Salem Red Sox schedule runs from early April through early September, with a ton of games to enjoy and cheer on this hometown team.

Keep the party going in Downtown Salem at one of our area's many bars and restaurants, including Parkway Brewing Company, Olde Salem Brewing Co., Allsports Cafe, Macado’s, and Mac & Bob’s, which often hosts events before and after each home game.

What to Bring

Sunscreen: Even if you have shaded seats, you’ll no doubt spend some time in the sun buying merchandise, refreshments, snacks, or simply walking to and from your vehicle, so don’t forget your sunscreen.

Baseball Glove: Bringing your trusty mitt to watch America’s national pastime is a pastime of its own. It’s a fantastic way to get into the spirit of the game and even help protect you and your family should a player hit a foul ball or homer your way. Make the catch, and you’ll take home the most coveted souvenir of any baseball game.

ID: If you plan to consume adult beverages at the game, you’ll need an ID proving you’re over 21 years of age to receive a wristband at the ID station before entering the park. You may not bring outside alcohol into the park.
