With the new Amtrak service to Downtown Roanoke, Virginia's Blue Ridge is now an easy train getaway from Washington, D.C., according to a new Washingtonian article.

The "5 Easy Train Getaways from DC" article that includes Roanoke is part of its Train Travel Guide that appeared in the June 2018 issue of the publication.

The story highlights many of the experiences that are within walking distance of the Amtrak platform in Downtown Roanoke, such as the Roanoke Pinball Museum, Lucky Restaurant, and The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.

The following is an excerpt from the section on Roanoke:

"After a nearly 40-year absence, Amtrak service to the Star City resumed last fall. Roanoke’s new station is a five-minute walk from downtown shops and restaurants, including local fave Lucky (18 Kirk St., SW; 540-982-1249), whose moody lighting, sophisticated menu, and long list of craft cocktails feel more Lower Manhattan than southwestern Virginia."
