The nightlife scene in Virginia’s Blue Ridge continues to grow with the addition of Stellina, a cocktail bar in Downtown Roanoke.

The bar, which is located beside Fortunato on Kirk Avenue, opened in December 2016 and has gained a reputation as a fantastic spot for hand-crafted cocktails in an intimate atmosphere. Stellina was recently highlighted in a story in the New York Post that focuses on unique small bars around the world.

It’s the latest project by J.P. Powell and Hunter Johnson, the co-owners who have helped put the region on the culinary map over the past few years with their innovative cuisine and amazing drinks at Lucky and Fortunato, two of Downtown Roanoke’s most popular restaurants.

The name “Stellina” means “Little Star” in Italian and the space is connected to Fortunato, known for its authentic Italian cuisine and Neapolitan style pizzas. It’s a small bar that can seat approximately 20 people in a cozy atmosphere. The bar is constructed with reclaimed wood from the Old Crow distillery and there’s a warm, dim glow that’s cast from a striking red light overhead.

Visitors will also be drawn to the wall in the bar that features a silver sea of tiny faces in the crowd. Iconic American artist Andy Warhol is one of the faces in the crowd and it’s a fun activity to see if you can find Andy in the crowd.

As for the drinks, you can expect the same creativity and quality that is regularly offered at Lucky and Fortunato. The bar will feature classic craft cocktails such as the Negroni and Americano, as well as an exciting blend of seasonal drinks and new concoctions.

Every cocktail is made with precision and contains the finest liquors and an assortment of ingredients, ranging from egg whites to fresh mint or basil and house-made tonics, syrups and even ice cubes.
