Roanoke is included among Virginia's pick for the Condé Nast Traveler article "50 States, 50 Cuisines: The Food Worth Traveling for in Every State." 

The Virginia section of the article tells the story of the Lebanese immigrants who were relocated to Roanoke after arriving at Ellis Island in the 1880s; soon, they began opening restaurants in Roanoke. Two local favorites, Aesy's Restaurant and Cedars Lebanese Restaurant, were recognized with Cedars' stuffed grape leaves and fatayer listed as must-tries.
