1. Layman Family Farms 2016 Fall Festival

Date: Weekends through November 13
Location: Layman Family Farms
Pick out the perfect pumpkin, get lost in the corn maze, and see how brave you are at the Haunted Harvest with a fall visit to Layman Family Farms. The 2016 Fall Festival at the farm takes place every Saturday & Sunday through November 13, offering plenty of opportunities for a fun visit.

2. Parkway Downtown

Spend your Friday night enjoying great live music from The Judy Chops and craft beer from Salem’s own award-winning Parkway Brewing Company. This is a family-friendly event with no admission charge and a guaranteed good time!

3. Harvest Festival

Location: Downtown Roanoke
The Harvest Festival signifies the return of fall to the Historic City Market in Downtown Roanoke, one of Virginia’s oldest and most iconic farmers markets. The market will feature fall decorations and the festival will include special activities such as pumpkin painting, caricatures, live music and more.

4. Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival

Date: September 24-25
Location: Crazy Horse Marina

7. Mountain Magic in Fall Bluegrass, Antiques & Crafts Festival

Date: October 1
Location: Town of Buchanan
The charm and character of the Town of Buchanan is on full display at the annual Mountain Magic in Fall Bluegrass, Antiques & Crafts Festival. Vendors fill the pedestrian-friendly Main Street of Downtown Buchanan, and visitors can also explore the local shops that have earned the community a reputation of being one of the best antiquing towns in the United States.

8. Oktoberfest & 5K Trail Race

Date: October 1
Location: Westlake Towne Center at Smith Mountain Lake
Who says you have to go to Germany to have an authentic Oktoberfest experience? This celebration at Westlake Towne Center will feature German-style music from the Mountain Top Polka Band, German cuisine, and special Oktoberfest beer provided by Smith Mountain Lake’s Sunken City Brewing Company.

9. The Great Pumpkin Smash

Date: October 8

Location: Dr Pepper Park
It’s everything pumpkin at The Great Pumpkin Smash at Dr Pepper Park! If you’re the type of person who goes “PTL!” for that “PSL”, this is the pumpkin focused food and beer festival for you! The event will also feature the smashing of the great pumpkin and live music.

10. 34th Annual Craig County Fall Festival

Date: October 8
Location: Downtown New Castle
Craig County Fall Festival

Take a scenic drive on Route 311 to enjoy some fall foliage as you make your way to the 34th annual Craig County Fall Festival in New Castle. You can discover the local history and charm of New Castle, which includes the unique Old Brick Hotel. Numerous tours will be taking place throughout the day, as well as an assortment of food and craft vendors.

11. Vinton Fall Festival & 5K Run

Date: October 8
Location: Downtown Vinton
Begin the day by taking part in the 5K Run/Walk and then check out the over 100 food and craft vendors on hand for the Vinton Fall Festival! There will be live music and entertainment taking place on two different stages, and you can also check out the local shops in Downtown Vinton.

12. Craftsmen’s Fall Classic Art & Craft Festival

Date: October 14-16
Location: Berglund Center
Bring a food donation and receive free admission for the Craftsmen’s Fall Classic Art & Craft Festival at Berglund Center. It’s one of the most popular fall events in Virginia’s Blue Ridge, as hundreds of artists and craftspeople from around the country make their way to the festival to show off their unique talents and goods.

13. GO Outside Festival

Date: October 14-16
Location: River’s Edge Sports Complex
The GO Outside Festival features three days of incredible outdoor fun! With a variety of adventure races, outdoor-related product demonstrations and exhibitors, local food trucks, live music, exciting shows, and opportunities for camping and glamping, this is a can’t-miss festival for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

14. LewisGale Salem Half Marathon, 8K & Kids Run

Date: October 15
Location: Downtown Salem
With its charming Main Street and downtown area combined with the scenic beauty of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, which will be close to peak fall color, the inaugural Salem Half Marathon, 8K & Kids Run is an exciting new event on the calendar in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. There will also be a post-race celebration at the Salem Farmers Market.

15. Blue Ridge Folklife Festival

Date: October 22
Location: Ferrum College
The Blue Ridge Folklife Festival at the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum at Ferrum College is an annual celebration of the region’s rich folklife heritage. Experience the traditions and skills that shaped the early foundation of the region, as the festival showcases moonshiners, blacksmiths, craftspeople and much more.

16. Open Studios Botetourt

Date: October 29-30
Location: Various Studios & Galleries in Botetourt County
Open Studios Botetourt

Learn about the unique artistic skills and creativity of local artists in Virginia’s Blue Ridge by checking out the Open Studio Tour of Botetourt County. This self-guided driving tour provides visitors the opportunity to visit art studios and galleries, meeting the artists behind the work and discovering the stories that have inspired them. 

17. Pumpkinfest

Location: Salem Farmers Market
Pumpkinfest at the Salem Farmers Market is a great option for families with kids in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Activities for the festival will include trick-or-treating, costume contests, pumpkin carving, and games.

Location: Mill Mountain Zoo

Location: Bridgewater Plaza
See who will take home the title of “Best Chili” at the 14th annual Smith Mountain Lake Chili & Craft Festival at Bridgewater Plaza. You’ll be able to sample a variety of chilis, as well as check out products from craftspeople, while also being a short walk away from the scenic beauty of Smith Mountain Lake and gorgeous views of Bridgewater Marina.

20. Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival

Date: November 19
Location: Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest
The Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival features some of the incredible wines being produced at local wineries and vineyards in Virginia. Jefferson described wine as a “necessary of life” and this annual festival celebrates his vision for Virginia wine at his gorgeous, Bedford County retreat.

Thanksgiving Day Bonus! - Drumstick Dash Family 5K Walk & Run

Date: Thanksgiving Day - November 24
Location: Downtown Roanoke
The Drumstick Dash is an annual Thanksgiving tradition and event that has become known as “Roanoke’s Biggest Family Reunion.” Thousands of runners, walkers and spectators make their way through Downtown Roanoke as a community fundraiser for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
