Outdoor Activities at Primland

Meeting Facilities

The rest of the world seems a million miles away at Primland. While at our 12,000 acre Blue Ridge Mountain resort, you can try everything or, with great please, do very very little. Eco-conscious and thoughtfully developed, Primland is the ultimate retreat for world-class golf, refined dining and outdoor activities in an environment of rare natural beauty. • ATV Trail Riding • Bird Watching • Children’s Activities • Disc Golf • Fly Fishing • Geocaching • Golf • Horseback Riding • Hunting • Kayaking • Mountain Biking • Nature Walks • Shooting Sports • Sporting Clays • Stargazing • Swimming • Tennis • Tree Climbing Sporting Clays: Esquire Magazine rated Primland as one of the top twenty-five courses for shooting sporting clays in the nation. Wingshooting: Primland is an Orvis endorsed wingshooting lodge and Virginia licensed wingshooting preserve. Pheasant hunting is a specialty here and Bobwhite Quail and Chukar provide additional shooting opportunities for our guests. Stargazing: Primland’s altitude and the unusual clarity of our night sky present our guests with the opportunity to study stars, planets, nebulae and amazing celestial objects with an absence of ambient light. The celebration of nature at Primland takes on an even greater dimension from the Observatory Dome. Our Celestron CGE Pro 1400 telescope provides extraordinary glimpses of the heavens and of objects beyond our solar system. ATV Tours: Take one of our ATVs out for a guided spin and enjoy panoramic perspectives of the property on trails created especially for ATV riding. Treeclimbing: We’ve partnered with Blue Ridge Tree Climbing for all our guests who loved recreational tree climbing as a kid and never lost the passion to explore higher and higher. Climbers of all ages will enjoy spending the day with guide Bob Wray on an adventure that offers a return to the simple pleasure of getting up and looking out on a completely new perspective. Primland’s extensive Virginia mountain biking trails vary in difficulty to suit the skills of beginners and experts alike and provide the perfect opportunity to explore the area’s beautiful scenery. Cannondale and Trek 21-speed bikes available for rental. Safety helmets in various sizes are also available for your Blue Ridge mountain biking adventure. Fly Fishing: The six-mile stretch of the scenic Dan River that lies adjacent to Primland is rugged, remote and home to beautiful wild trout. Guided fly-fishing is offered on a catch and release basis only for the wild brown, brook, and rainbow trout that inhabit these clear waters. For fly casters seeking less challenging Blue Ridge Mountain fishing, the broader and more forgiving Kibler Valley section of the Dan River is located nearby. Nature Walks and Hikes: Our network of Blue Ridge Mountain hiking trails makes exploring the outdoors one of Primland’s premier activities. The property’s vast and varied terrain is perfect for hikers of all abilities. Much of Primland is best seen at a gentle pace, and walking provides a close up view of the mountain’s flora and fauna. We have several Blue Ridge hiking trails in the vicinity of The Lodge and Fairway Cottages, and whether you’d like a short walk or a more moderate trek, you’ll find fascinating views both at a distance and close-up. Maps and bottled water are available.
