The Mills Gap route provides an opportunity to experience some of the great biking in Botetourt County in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. It’s a 6.5 mile ride that begins and ends in the historic Town of Buchanan along the James River. The route travels south out of Buchanan on Route 43 for nearly 5 miles until you connect with the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 90. Ride south on the Parkway for almost two miles until you reach the Mills Gap Overlook at Milepost 91.8. The overlook offers a gorgeous view of nearby Purgatory Mountain and the James River. From an elevation of over 2,400 feet, it offers an amazing perspective of Virginia’s Blue Ridge and is certainly worth the climb.
