Mary Peterson Vargas was born in 1978 in Dallas, Texas, but has lived in Roanoke, Virginia since she was a young child. During her childhood and teenage years, Mary enjoyed drawing as a hobby, but did not take it seriously as she entered her college and early married years. After her first child was born, she grew interested in oils as she watched her father begin painting. Mary's foundation in painting has been laid through a combination of help from her father and self-study. For Mary, oil painting has become a rewarding pursuit - at times exciting, other times maddening, but always challenging. Family adds special significance to her painting; she is enjoying an art at which her late grandmother excelled and she has enjoyed being able to paint with her father by her side. Mary sells items at Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke and Southern Provisions in Lynchburg.
