John Wilson is a Colorado born sculptor working in metal. Having been based in San Francisco since 1965, he moved to Roanoke, VA in April 2007. Wilson is a self taught metal worker who learned his skill collaborating with members of the San Francisco Artist Community constructing large-scale Metal Art Projects. He has worked with CELLspace Metal Shop, the Boxshop, the Shipyard, Seeman, the Flaming Lotus Girls, the Crucible, and other fire, metal, and mechanical artists on projects in San Francisco.
Wilson has won awards from the Blue Ridge Arts Council, Salem Fine Arts Commission, City of Roanoke, and the Taubman Museum, and has artwork in the Public Art Collections of the San Jose Museum of Art, as well as the City of Roanoke Virginia Fine Arts Collection. He has exhibited at RiverViews Artspace in VA, ARTVIEW International in VA, Burning Man Festival in NV, ArtCar Fest in CA, Petersen Automotive Museum in CA, SomArts in CA. He has been awarded residency at Cite' Internationale des Arts, Paris France for 2011 and 2012. His artwork has been show at galleries in California and Virginia. He currently shows and maintains a studio at the WILSON HUGHES gallery at 117 West Campbell Avenue in Downtown Roanoke Virginia.
