Black Dog Salvage LOVEwork

Located at Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, Virginia, the LOVEwork is a one-of-a-kind tribute to Virginia’s iconic “Virginia is for Lovers” slogan. Created by the talented team at Black Dog Salvage’s custom fabrication shop, this striking installation combines industrial elements, vintage materials, and local history into a unique, interactive piece of public art.

The L of the LOVEwork incorporates a mix of industrial elements and a 1960s trombone from the USS Independence CVS-62 ship's band, generously donated by LT Sonny Fleisher, USN. The O features two industrial spools painted in the colors of the rainbow, while the V is crafted from reclaimed hand-hewn pine beams dating back to the late 1800s. The E is built from German stainless steel brewery piping, showcasing the blend of craftsmanship and creativity that defines Black Dog Salvage.

A special feature of the O is the ‘50’, a former speed limit sign that commemorates 50 years of the Virginia is for Lovers slogan. The piece is further enhanced with graffiti benches made from train car sides and salvaged I-beams from the former Boulevard at the Capital Centre in Largo, MD.

A selfie stand has been added, offering visitors the chance to capture the perfect shot in front of this remarkable piece of Virginia’s public art.
