Outdoor Recreation in Downtown Roanoke

In addition to offering close proximity to many amazing opportunities for outdoor recreation, Downtown Roanoke also features some of its own great options for outdoor fun.

The Lick Run and Mill Mountain segments of the Roanoke Valley Greenway system wind through Downtown Roanoke, providing great opportunities to explore other parts of the city, as well.

The main spot for outdoor recreation in Downtown Roanoke is Elmwood Park, which is managed by the City of Roanoke’s Parks & Recreation Department. It features the Elmwood Art Walk, fountains, the Carilion Peter Pan Playground, and a 4,000 seat amphitheater that is regularly used for live music and special events. In winter months, Elmwood Park is also the location of a public ice skating rink.

In addition to the Elmwood Art Walk, you'll find all kinds of great public art throughout Downtown Roanoke. Check out this Art Map from RIDE Solutions and visit all the downtown locations.

You can also turn Downtown Roanoke into your own scavenger hunt playground with the many Geocaching spots available >
