Troutville is a small town with a big heart. With barely 500 full-time residents, this picturesque community embraces the small town way of life every day. Troutville’s charming municipal park is the site of numerous festivals as well as family reunions and other special events. At the mom-and-pop shops, everyone is greeted with a smile. This genuine southern hospitality has become well-known to weary travelers. Troutville has become a favorite stopping point for Appalachian Trail hikers and cyclists on the Transamerican Trail, both of which pass right through the center of town. The Town of Troutville was established in 1956 and is located in Botetourt County, Virginia. In 1881, this area had no name. The railroad came through and a station was built. There were three houses then which were occupied by John, Jim and George Trout - so the area was called Troutsville. In 1895, Troutville was a thriving town with a very active shipping point, good farming, busy canneries, packing houses and factories. The name of the town was later changed to Troutville. Troutville offers much for permanent residents and visitors alike. The town is home to a delightful municipal park, small shops, and a variety of local businesses. The Appalachian Trail crosses the South end of town. Troutville is an official designated Appalachian Trail Community and hosts the annual Troutville Trail Days weekend in June each year. Today Troutville charms visitors with its friendly people and small town atmosphere. Roanoke, located 15-minutes from Troutville is home to major retailers and a full-service airport. Things to do while visiting Troutville Bird Watching at Woodpecker Ridge Nature Center -Woodpecker Ridge Nature Center offers birders and nature enthusiasts numerous opportunities for wildlife watching. Cycling on the TransAmerican Trail (Route 76) - Cyclists traveling cross country are welcome to spend the night camping in the Troutville Town Park. Playing or Relaxing in the Troutville Town Park - Whether it's a picnic or a family reunion, a brisk walk around the quarter mile walking path, or just playing with he kids, Troutville Town Park is for you.
