Residents & Road Impact - 2022 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships

Virginia's Blue Ridge is hosting the 2022 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships from June 29 through July 2. Various cycling events will be taking place in the City of Roanoke and Botetourt County and we're excited to welcome the top amateur cyclists from around the country to our region for this exciting event.

Local residents should expect an increase in cycling activities leading up to the event as participants practice the courses, as well as road closures and impacts during the championships.

The following is a list of areas that will be impacted. 

Wednesday, June 29, 2022 

Time Trial – Base of Operations – Troutville Elementary School

(Stoney Battery Road closed at Route 11) Residents only on Stoney Battery Road – No thru traffic. Route 11 Northbound lanes impacted to Hardbarger Road from 4am – 4pm Residents will be assisted by Botetourt County Sheriff, Virginia State Police and Course Marshals.

Thursday, June 30, 2022 and Friday July 1

Road Race – Base of Operations – Botetourt Sports Complex

(First race at 7am – 7:30pm) Note – No road closures – rolling competition with group and police escort Road impacts: Etzler Road, Catawba Road, Haymakertown Road, Breckinridge Mill Road, Lees Gap Road, Grove Hill Road, Blacksburg Road. 

Saturday, July 2, 2022

Criterium – Base of Operations – Downtown Roanoke

Roads impacted:  Church Avenue, 2nd, 3rd, Luck, Franklin and Jefferson. (First Street closed)
First race at 8:00am.  Last race ends at 6:15pm
Note – Road closures from 4am – 6:30pm (reopening all roads by 8:30pm)
