Let's Talk About Space at Peaks

Astronomy programs are back at Peaks of Otter for the 2024 season! Here is what we have in store for this year.

If it is clear after the presentation, guests will see the night sky in all its glory while listening to sky lore and fascinating sky facts.

June 5, 2024 - 9:00 PM

• "So, You Want To Be An Astrophotographer?" This engaging presentation will teach the audience basics on how to photograph the Blue Ridge Parkway and the sky while visiting.

July 10, 2024 - 9:00 PM

• "The Sky IS Falling - Space Rocks and You." Guests will learn about meteorites AND Greg will have real meteorites for them to see including from Mars, Chelyabinsk, Russia and the Moon.

August 21, 2024 - 9:00 PM

• "The Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater - The Inside Story of Virginia's Largest Impact Crater." The world's 7th largest known impact crater is under the Chesapeake Bay at Cape Charles, VA; hear the inside story. Extremely rare geological samples from within CBIC will be available for viewing by our guests.

September 11, 2024 - 8:00 PM

• "The Future of US Human Spaceflight." Learn where NASA is headed, literally, with new manned spacecraft and rockets to launch the next generation of American astronauts.

October 9, 2024 - 8:00 PM

• "Our Star, The Sun." How does the Sun, shine? How was it born, live and ultimately, die? Our guests will be amazed at the Sun after attending this presentation.
