This special Smith Mountain Lake LOVE sign is mobile, though it’s most often found at the Westlake Towne Center in Franklin County.
The “LOVE” letters are made of plywood and layered with fiberglass and Styrofoam and measure 4 feet by 4 feet. Each letter represents a different activity that can be found at Smith Mountain Lake — the L was made from a pair of water skis and a wakeboard; the O is a large golf ball; the V is two fishing lures; and the E is a throw-ring buoy to illustrate boating.
Directions
- Directions: Smith Mountain Lake is southeast of downtown Roanoke and can be reached from multiple directions. Visitors can take Route 24 east through Vinton to reach the lake, Route 116 south over Windy Gap Mountain to Route 122 to the lake, or south on US 220 to Rocky Mount and then Route 40 east to the lake.
