Mill Creek is a ride on a set of horse trails near the Fenwick Mines Recreation Area in the Jefferson National Forest. It’s a loop ride of approximately 17 miles that offers intermediate-level difficulty but requires careful mapping as there are no markings throughout the route. Park at the Fenwick Mines Recreation Area and take Mill Creek Road to Route 615. Exit Route 615 at the first entrance to an old railroad bed on the left at Little Mountain Road. Ride the railroad bed to Oriskany and then back onto Route 615 for 1 mile. Take a left on Lignite Road/Route 704. Climb for a few miles and the horse trail is off to the left. This leads through the ghost town of Lignite and by the Lignite Mines. Turn left off Lignite Road to Route 179, also known as Bald Mountain. Ride approximately 4 miles and then continue onto Forest Road 181 for 2 miles. Turn left onto the Old Jeep Road to return to the Fenwick Mines parking area.
