If you want to get the full experience of what it’s like to road bike in Virginia’s Blue Ridge, this is the route for you. The loop starts near the Roanoke River and leads riders through Downtown Roanoke and by the historic railroad shops that served as the industrial foundation of the city. The loop continues through north Roanoke before crossing into Botetourt County and its wonderful farmland and countryside. Then, you get a chance to enjoy stunning mountain views and a fun mountain climb as you make your way up Catawba Mountain. Enjoy the ride down the mountain as the loop winds back around toward Downtown Roanoke and prepare to take in the gorgeous views of the city skyline. Many portions of this route are on streets with high motorist traffic so it’s recommended only for advanced riders.
