More Information

Since its beginning, back in the mid 60’s, The Kings have been consistently a top drawing power in central and southwest Virginia. This is attributed, some say, to the ten years they appeared as the primary attraction at The Kings Inn, the most popular dance club in the region during the 70s. The Sway Katz Big Band was formed in 2006 with the purpose of preserving the tradition of the great American Big Band sound. The Katz perform the full spectrum of big band music from the 1930’s to present day. The band shifts easily between your favorites from Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, and Count Basie to contemporary artists like Gordon Goodwin, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, and Brian Setzer. The Sway Katz are renowned for their tight ensemble work, audacious sense of swing and inspired solos. The Sway Katz embody the classic American Big Band line up of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets and a rhythm section made up of guitar, keys, bass, drums and a percussionist. Vocalist Celie Holmes dynamically fronts the band for the various vocal numbers. Great soloists throughout the band are featured to accent each tune. All Sway Katz shows are a musical night to remember!
