Post-Bop Jazz Trumpet
The John D’earth Sextet is led by the internationally recognized trumpeter and composer, John D’earth. D’earth resides in Charlottesville, Virginia and his band anchors one of the longest-running jazz gigs in the country: Thursday Night at Miller’s, on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. What began there in the mid-eighties with his NYC transplant band, Cosmology (Vanguard Records - led by New York City expatriates vocalist/songwriter Dawn Thompson, drummer Robert Jospe, and D’earth,) later became John D’earth – Live at Miller’s, which morphed into the Thompson/D’earth Band (Cosmology Records) when D’earth and Thompson were married. With the advent of Dawn’s cancer in 2008 the band returned to an all-instrumental format: the John D’earth Quintet/Sextet.
