Welcome to Take a Walk on the Wild Side- Mammals!

Join our expert educators for an immersive morning adventure in the stunning landscapes of Mill Mountain. Our journey begins at 8:00AM in front of the Discovery Center before we start our adventure with native mammal species that inhabit the area and learn about their vital roles in shaping the environment.

Program Highlights:

Native Mammal Species Chat (30 mins): Start the morning with an informative conversation in the Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden about the diverse range of native mammal species found on Mill Mountain. Learn about the ecological importance of these mammals and how they contribute to the balance of the local ecosystem.
Morning Hike Exploration (45 mins - 1 hour): Embark on a scenic hike around Mill Mountain, led by our experienced educators. As we traverse the winding trails, keep a lookout for signs of mammal activity. Our educators will pause the hike to provide fascinating insights into the mammals we encounter, including their behaviors, habitats, and conservation status.
Mammal Encounter at the Zoo (1 hour): Conclude our adventure with a visit to the zoo, where we'll have the opportunity to observe and learn about some of the mammal species housed there. Our educators will offer intriguing facts about these charismatic creatures, shedding light on their adaptations and the importance of their conservation.

Location: Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden, Mill Mountain hiking trails, and Mill Mountain Zoo
Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours
Recommended Attire: Comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor exploration, sturdy walking shoes, and layers to accommodate changing temperatures.
Provided: Field guides, binoculars, and visibility sashes (all provided materials will need to be returned at the end of the program)
Note: Please bring a water bottle and sunscreen for sun protection during the hike, and be prepared for moderate physical activity. You are welcome to bring any field guides or binoculars of your own as well.
