Susan McLaren and James Ardery will be guest artists at Lackey Studio and Art Gallery during the month of July 2021 with a “Meet and Greet the Artist” reception to be held on Sunday, July 18th from 2 pm until 5 pm.
Susan McLaren is an accomplished, adventurous watercolor artist, who continuously challenges herself with new techniques and use of materials. Her primary objective with her art is to evoke a visceral or emotional response in the viewer. It is also important to her that she has a connection to her subject as well, no matter the medium, style, size or genre in which she is working. In addition to watercolors, she also works in acrylics as well as inks and mixed media. Recently she has enjoyed experimenting with various papers and grounds to obtain different effects with watercolors and acrylics, creating watercolor “batiks” using hot wax and watercolor on rice paper.
James Ardery is an accomplished, detailed colored pencil and graphite artist, as well as a photographer. He is an avid outdoorsman and his work often depicts the wildlife found in our area. His love of nature and the beautiful area that we live in comes through in his work. James shows his work at numerous events throughout the Roanoke Valley, including New Freedom Farm, Beaver Dam Sunflower Festival, Fincastle and the Taubman Sidewalk Art Show.
Patrons and fans of both artists are encouraged to attend the artist reception on Sunday, July 18th, 2021 from 2 pm until 5 pm or the exhibit may be viewed at any time during the month when the gallery is open.
