Experience the park at night with a ranger guide pointing out stars and planets, nocturnal wildlife, and the joys of a natural night with low light pollution. This moderate 1.25-mile hike will give you a chance to encounter owls, lightning bugs, shooting stars, and the moonlit silhouette of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This hike is best enjoyed in closed-toe shoes with a water bottle in hand; flashlights are encouraged, but for much of the hike we will avoid unnecessary light. When it comes to constellations and nighttime wildlife, you might just see more with the lights off!
Pre-registration is required and space is limited. To register, call (540) 254-0795. Prepayment is taken at time of registration by credit card over the phone, and you will be emailed a receipt.
The program fee is $3 per person. Meet at Skyline Trail to begin; for Google Map directions, see event website.
Ticks are common on the trail. Pack bug spray, tuck pant legs into socks, and check for ticks after getting back from the walk.
If you have concerns about being able to attend the program, please call (540) 254-0795 to speak with a ranger.
