Date: Sunday, April 22nd Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm Location: Claytor Lake State Park, Picnic Shelter # 1 Lace up your hiking shoes and join us for our 3rd annual NRV Hike for Hospice! The main event will take place a picnic shelter # 1 within the park, right on the lake shore. The afternoon will include: *Lunch off the grill provided by Hethwood Market Catering Burgers, Hotdogs, Veggie Burger, sides and fixings *Live Bluegrass music provided by the talented Eastern Divide Band Bring a camp chair or blanket with you to relax and enjoy the music after your hike! *Games Cornhole, Jumbo Jenga, Horseshoes, and more *Fishing Claytor Lake State Park will provide the fishing poles, just remember to bring your fishing license! *A “Puppy Kissing Booth” featuring Good Sam’s own licensed therapy dog, Roux, and his human Pat. Kisses and Cuddles from Roux for a suggested donation of $1 each, so bring your cash! *Face Painting for the young and young at heart *Three different group hikes to choose from at varying degrees of difficulty and lead by park rangers and naturalists *Outdoor Adventure Raffle Prizes Raffle tickets are $3.00 for one ticket or $10.00 for five tickets, remember to bring some extra cash! *A memorial ceremony with a dove release will be held at the end of the event Hikes will be led by Claytor Lake State Park rangers and naturalists! Easy Hike – .75 Mile Walk This route leads participants down a lovely winding paved path following along the shore of the lake and around the historical Howe House. This easy hike is just under a mile long and will be a leisurely stroll allowing for you to take in the beautiful views offered at your own pace. The paved path is also ADA accessible and a good option for children and strollers. Moderate Hike – 2.0 Mile Hike Join Mary Rhoades of the Native Plant Society on a hike through the woods to spot wildflowers at their peak bloom. This hike will take participants further up into the hilly terrain around the park. The route will begin on the Shady Ridge trail and transition to the Bent Tree and Poplar Leaf trails before returning back to Shelter #1. This hike will be over 2 miles. Advanced Hike – 3.0 Mile Hike This will be a fast paced hike that will take hikers on a scenic view of the lake and park. This route will take participants on the Poplar Leaf, Claytor, and Bent Tree trails. Please wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring a bottle of water. This hike will be around 3 miles. Once Day-of Registration and Pre-Registered Check-in close (from 1:30pm till 2:00pm), the guided hikes will leave promptly from Picnic Shelter # 1 at 2:00pm.
