More Information

Fantasyland entertains adults and children each year with wonderful exhibits of elves, igloos, reindeer and holiday scenes “retired” from downtown merchants in the 1960s and 1970s. Histories of some of the exhibits donated by Grand Home Furnishings have been added to this year’s display. The same Santa who has played guitar and sung at the shows from the beginning returns to teach bout love and sharing through fun activities.

Three shows are scheduled each public day, beginning with a special Santa Sing-a-long for very young children, ages 0-3, at 10 a.m. The regular Fantasyland programs are at 11 am and noon all days, except for Dec. 8, when programs are only at 11 and noon. Tickets are $7 for ages 13 and up, $5 for ages 4-12 and $3 for youngsters 3 and under. Tickets go on sale in early November and can be purchased through the Historical Society of Western Virginia website,, by calling the museum or by visiting the museum’s Gift Shop. School groups who wish to attend the weekday shows should contact Lynsey Allie, museum manager, at 540-982-5465 or Special pricing is available for those groups.

For more than 20 years, the History Museum of Western Virginia has presented “Fantasyland” as both an education program and a holiday fundraiser. The multi-day program opens this year on Nov. 23, Black Friday, with public programming Nov. 23 and 24. Public programs continue on Dec. 1, 8, 15, 18, 19 and 20. Programs for school groups are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, beginning Nov. 27 and ending Dec. 13.
