More Information

Known for using human hair and combs, Afro-American multi-media artist Sonya Clark addresses the origins of craft, race, culture, class and history in her work. This exhibition addresses the roles of hair in African American society and features site-specific installations and performance that explore hair as an indicator of social status, a symbol of age and authority, a statement of contemporary style, an object of beauty, and adornment. To mark the exhibition opening, Museum members can take advantage of free, member-exclusive tours every hour from 11am-3pm on this day. Clark will give an artist talk at 6:30pm. Members may attend the talk for free; the talk is $8 for non-members. Registration to the talk is required and available online at https://24531.blackbaudhosting.com/24531/Artist-Talk-Sonya-Clark.
