The Chance Crawford Benefit Softball Tournament began 45 years ago to help a young Salem High School quarterback, Chance Crawford, who suffered a tragic spinal cord injury in a high school football game. The first ten years of the event, proceeds helped Chance through school and college, and provided for his medical needs. Chance is now serving as Clerk of Circuit Court for Salem and no longer needs the help, but he continues to make contributions to the community by allowing the tournament to be played in his name to help others. All proceeds are used to help many different worthy causes and give several college scholarships.
