The passenger excursions offer visitors the opportunity to ride on the Norfolk & Western Class J 611 steam locomotive, an engineering marvel that was built in Roanoke and has become known as the "Queen of Steam." The 611, which is owned by the Virginia Museum of Transportation, is the only Class J locomotive still in existence.

The museum is located in Downtown Roanoke in Virginia's Blue Ridge and is where patrons can see Norfolk & Western's "Big Three" locomotives - the N&W Class J611, N&W Class A 1218 and the N&W Class Y6a 2156, currently on loan from the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis.
