Fall is a gorgeous time in the Roanoke Region in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. The leaves are spectacular and the weather can be beautiful. There are so many ways you can see the foliage by bike but also other fun activities this fall!
Roanoke Mountain Adventures - E-Bike Tours
My favorite way to see fall scenery is by bike. If would prefer a little assistance from an e-bike, Roanoke Mountain Adventures offers e-bike tours! In addition to beautiful mountain views, one tour even includes 3 brewery stops. Helmets are mandatory.
Cardinal Bicycle - Group Rides
Another way to enjoy this great fall weather is by participating in one of Cardinal Bicycle’s many group rides. They all depart from Cardinal Bicycle in Roanoke's Historic Grandin Village.
“L’ Eroica Roanoke” occurs on Tuesdays evenings. This group road ride includes a Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced group.
On Wednesdays, “The Mullet” Mountain Bike Ride leaves from Cardinal Bicycle at 6pm. It is a fun no drop mountain bike ride at Mill Mountain.
On Saturdays, “Singletrack Shenanigans” leaves at 9:30. This is an intermediate no drop ride that can include mountain bike trails, gravel roads and a little pavement.
Bike rentals, including e-bikes, are available at Cardinal Bicycle for any terrain from the greenway to mountain bike trails.

VBR Gran Fondo - October 13
If you are a little more competitive, consider participating in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Gran Fondo. There are 3 different distances to choose from: 33, 43, and 75 miles.
Each route will have 2-3 sections that will be chip-timed. All three routes are incredibly scenic, featuring Botetourt County, and will feature well-stocked aid stations.
Roanoke GO Outside Festival - October 18-20
Mark your Calendar for the third weekend in October for the Roanoke GO Outside Festival in Downtown Roanoke and Explore Park. For 3 days, there will be numerous outdoor activities you can participate in. You can test ride bikes, demo standup paddleboards, and there are even races you can participate in. You can also watch films from the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Post-Ride Treat - Little Green Hive
Finally, I love going to Little Green Hive for coffee this time of year. I enjoy getting coffee to go and walking through my neighborhood with my beagles to slow down and see the leaves. If you are like me, you couldn’t wait to get your first Pumpkin Spice Latte!
In addition to a PSL, they have many additional fall themed beverages like the Baked Apple Cappuccino and Caramel Apple Latte. Little Green Hive has two locations in Roanoke and one in Daleville in Botetourt County.
