Taste the deliciousness of local ice cream this summer with a visit to the new Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia’s Blue Ridge!
The new shop was recently opened by Jason & Carolyn Kiser, who have a passion for making craft ice cream part of the region’s local food scene.
It’s their goal to source locally as much as possible with their products and flavors, and to also partner with local artisans, chefs, and others in the food industry to come up with creative, delicious batches of ice cream.
Visitors to Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. can expect to enjoy premium ice cream that’s made on-site from quality ingredients and served with a smile.
From classic options like chocolate, vanilla, and mint chip, to more gourmet batches like strawberry balsamic, goat cheese with blueberry swirl, and Red Rooster Coffee with chocolate chip, you’ll be amazed at how many different flavors you can enjoy.
Too many options to decide?! No worries! In addition to traditional scoop options served in cups, cones, and freshly-made waffle cones, Blue Cow Ice Cream also offers an ice cream flight where you can order four different flavors served in individual cups!
It’s the perfect way to sample and share.

All flavors on the menu can also be ordered as milkshakes.
The space was previously operated as HITS Frozen Treats before the previous owners retired, but locals and visitors still have the opportunity to enjoy delicious ice cream in this popular spot at the base of Mill Mountain and located next to the Roanoke River Greenway.
Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. has also expanded the seating area with more tables and chairs, both inside the shop, on the patio overlooking the greenway, and along the exterior of the shop.
It’s a great spot to visit for a sweet treat during your next Blue Ridge Day!

The shop plans to offer a variety of flavors and work with local artisans to present new unique flavors. It will be a menu that rotates through classics, seasonal favorites, and exciting new batches. Here is a picture of Blue Cow’s opening flavor list.

Blue Cow Ice Cream is located along the Roanoke River Greenway and at the base of Mill Mountain.
