Get ready for summer fun in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains!

With the upcoming events on the calendar, there are all kinds of ways you can plan a mountain getaway, whether you’re flying solo, enjoying a romantic weekend, getting together with friends, or bringing along the entire family!

To help you prepare for your trip, here are 30 events to check out this June in Virginia’s Blue Ridge!

1. Salem Red Sox Baseball

Location: Haley Toyota Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark
The Salem Red Sox will look to stay atop the Carolina League standings as we reach the All Star Break, which will be held in Virginia’s Blue Ridge this year with the All-Star Game taking place in Salem on Tuesday, June 20! There are plenty of opportunities to see the Sox in action this month, with homestands from June 1-7, 12-14, and 22-28.

2. Nikki Hill

Location: Harvester Performance Center
Nikki Hill performs at the Harvester Performance Center in a concert that will deliver authentic sounds of blues, rock, and Southern soul. If you aren’t familiar with her music, get to know Hill by checking out her 2015 album “Heavy Hearts and Hard Fists.”

3. Lebanese Festival

Date: June 2-4
Location: St. Elias Church
The 19th annual Lebanese Festival is a celebration of the Lebanese heritage and culture that has helped shape the region for years. Admission and parking are free and the festival features authentic Lebanese cuisine, music, folk dances, and costumes. 

4. Troutville Trail Days

Date: June 3
Location: Troutville Town Park
It’s the time of year when thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail are making their way through Virginia’s Blue Ridge, and those making the trek are welcomed at Troutville Trail Days, a free festival that highlights the region and the community’s passion for the outdoors. It’s a day of activities, including live music, arts and crafts, BBQ, guided hikes, and more.

5. Sidewalk Art Show

Date: June 3-4
Location: Taubman Museum of Art
Now in its 59th year, the Sidewalk Art Show has become an annual highlight of the local arts scene in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. The Taubman Museum of Art hosts the annual event, which is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some fine art shopping and get to know the artists behind the work. More than 140 artists are expected to participate in this year’s event.

6. Giant Jam Sandwich: A FloydFest Family Picnic

Date: June 4
Location: Elmwood Park
It’s a day of jamming in Elmwood Park in Downtown Roanoke. Across the Way Productions, which also presents FloydFest, is presenting a day of music for the entire family in Elmwood Park. The show is headlined by TAUK, BIG Something, The Werks, People’s Blues of Richmond, The Mantras and Sol Searchers. 

7. Anniversary of D-Day

National D-Day Memorial

Date: June 6
Location: National D-Day Memorial
Honor the soldiers that paid the ultimate sacrifice 72 years ago as part of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 in World War II. The National D-Day Memorial in Virginia’s Blue Ridge will host a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary and the event’s keynote speaker is Jerry Yellin, a pilot who flew the final combat mission of World War II.

8. TOTO

Date: June 8
Location: Harvester Performance Center
Known for hits like “Hold the Line,” “Rosanna,” and “Africa,” Toto has become one of the most recognized bands in the world during its 40 year history. The group has sold over 40 million records worldwide and received numerous Grammy Awards, and offers a musical style that blends pop, rock, soul and jazz.

9. Dori Freeman

Date: June 8
Location: Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech
Dori Freeman is a young, talented local artist who is making a name for herself in the music industry. Freeman presents the influences of bluegrass, R&B, and old country that have become synonymous with the music heritage of the region, while also putting her own twist onto the style. 

10. #FBF Fleetwood Mac Tribute: Rumours

Date: June 9
Location: Dr Pepper Park at The Bridges
Rumours is an Atlanta-based Fleetwood Mac tribute band that delivers on the harmonies, instrumentation and energy of a traditional Fleetwood Mac stage show. The group is committed to re-creating a Fleetwood Mac experience, and regularly performs in front of sold out crowds around the country.

11. Montgomery Gentry

Montgomery Gentry - Elmwood Park

Date: June 9
Location: Elmwood Park
Montgomery Gentry is back for another show in Elmwood Park! The country music duo of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry is known for its Southern rock sound and has received numerous Country Music Awards. The band was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2009.

12. An Evening with America

Date: June 9
Location: Harvester Performance Center
The rock band is celebrating its 47th anniversary this year! With hits like "A Horse With No Name," "Ventura Highway," and "Sister Golden Hair," the Grammy winning light folk-rock group has performed for fans around in the world. 

13. Flat Pickin’ Fridays

Date: June 9
Location: Daleville Town Center
Big Lick Entertainment presents its popular Flat Pickin’ Fridays country concert series. The event is open to all ages and tickets are only $5! This month’s concert will be headlined by Nashville’s Natalie Brady Band and special guest Barefoot West.

14. The Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming

Date: June 9-17
Location: Multiple Venues
It’s nine days of music at multiple venues for the Mountains of Music Homecoming on The Crooked Road. One of the event’s headline shows will be when The Stanley Brothers Legacy, featuring Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys with Ricky Skaggs and Larry Sparks, perform at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech on June 11.

15. Virginia Beer & Wine Festival

Date: June 10
Location: Daleville Town Center
Sample products from over 45 Virginia breweries, wineries, and cideries in attendance for the Virginia Beer & Wine Festival at Daleville Town Center! There will also be food served by Twisted Tail BBQ, Fast Burger, and Hops & Nuts, as well as music by Empty Bottles and Riverbank Ramblers.

16. Artisan Saturdays at Explore Park

Date: June 10
Location: Explore Park
Make a stop at Milepost 115 on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Roanoke County’s Explore Park and discover works from local artisans. There will be art demonstrations, original works available for sale, book signings, presentations, and many other interesting activities. You can also enjoy the wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities the park offers, such as hiking, biking, and fishing.

17. Historic Old Southwest Enchanted Garden Tour

Date: June 10
Location: Old Southwest Roanoke
Explore and learn about the gardens in Roanoke’s charming Historic Old Southwest neighborhood. The tour will feature four historic homes with a variety of flowers, outdoor living spaces, sculptures and other creative elements that help give the neighborhood its unique flair. 

18. Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives

Date: June 10
Location: Harvester Performance Center
Five-time Grammy Award winner Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives are playing at the Harvester Performance Center. The band’s “Way Out West” Tour showcases the album that was recently released in March 2017. It’s a mix of original songs, instrumentals, and covers and it highlights what has made Stuart a living legend of country music.

19. The Artie Levin Memorial Century

Date: June 11
Location: Buchanan Fairgrounds
This annual cycling race will put your skills and endurance to the test! Known by many simply as “The Artie,” there are both 100-mile and 50-mile ride options with routes that make their way along many of the beautiful country roads of Virginia’s mountains. The event is presented by the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club and is a tribute to Artie Levin, the club’s founder. 

20. The Importance of Being Earnest

Date: June 15-25
Location: Showtimers Community Theatre
Showtimers Community Theatre presents this classic comedy by Oscar Wilde. The show revolves around Jack and Algy, two bachelors who create alter egos named Earnest as escapes from their normal lives.

21. Antique Farm Days

Date: June 16-18
Location: Franklin County Recreation Park
Spend Father’s Day Weekend at Franklin County’s Antique Farm Days event! There will be classic antique engines, tractor parades, farming demonstrations, blacksmithing, wood working and other exhibits that showcase the importance of farm machinery and the role agriculture served in the history of Franklin County.

22. Big Lick Burger Fest & Summer Jam

Date: June 17
Location: Elmwood Park
Great burgers, craft beer, live music by Eve 6 and tickets are only $10?! What more do you need to know? There will be multiple burger vendors on hand and live music throughout the day, highlighted by the platinum-selling band known for the hit song “Inside Out.”

23. Juneteenth

Juneteenth - Booker T. Washington National Monument

Date: June 17
Location: Booker T. Washington National Monument
Commemorate that anniversary of the 1865 emancipation of slaves at the end of the Civil War with a day of activities at the Booker T. Washington National Monument. The Juneteenth celebration will include re-enactments, gospel performances, children’s activities and food vendors.

24. The Marshall Tucker Band

Date: June 17
Location: Harvester Performance Center
As one of the pioneers of the Southern rock genre that became popular in the 1970s, The Marshall Tucker Band has performed for fans for over 45 years. The group is known for hits like “Can’t You See,” “Fire on the Mountain,” and “Heard It in a Love Song.”

25. The Wine Trail of Botetourt County Summer Concert Series

Date: June 17
Location: Virginia Mountain Vineyards
The Wine Trail of Botetourt County Summer Concert Series heads to Virginia Mountain Vineyards on Saturday, June 17 for a performance by True Cadence. Drink in the beautiful views of the mountains and delicious wines of Virginia Mountain Vineyards while enjoying an evening of live music.

26. Fuel

Date: June 23
Location: Dr Pepper Park at The Bridges
The music of Fuel was regularly at the top of the music charts in the early 2000s as the band created hit songs like “Hemorrhage” and “Innocent” on its album Something Like Human. The release of the album “Puppet Strings” put the band back on top of the Billboard rock charts in 2013, and the group brings its distinct rock/post-grunge sound to the stage at Dr Pepper Park. 

27. Star City Motor Madness

Date: June 23-24
Location: Williamson Road & Downtown Roanoke
As one of the biggest automotive events in the Mid-Atlantic, Star City Motor Madness celebrates the tradition of Cruising on Williamson Road, a local practice since the 1950s. The second day of the event features a car show in Downtown Roanoke that boasts over 400 vehicles, ranging from classic hot rods and antiques to motorcycles.

28. Shake, Bake & Sprout Children’s Event

Date: June 24
Location: Vinton Farmers Market
Spend a Blue Ridge Day with the kids at the Farmers Market in Downtown Vinton! The market hosts numerous special activities and demonstrations on Saturdays, including the Shake, Bake & Sprout Children’s Event on June 24. There will be multiple kid-friendly activities that are fun and educational, such as container gardening, cooking, and exercises.

29. Salem Fair

Date: June 28 - July 9
Location: Salem Civic Center
Virginia’s largest fair is back for another year at the Salem Civic Center! The Salem Fair has been recognized as one of the Top 100 fairs & expositions in the country and boasts a variety of classic fair rides, delicious food, live music, and other entertainment.

30. 1776, the Concert Musical

1776 - Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest

Date: June 30 - July 1
Location: Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest
Don’t throw away your shot to see this special presentation of 1776 - the Tony Award winning musical comedy about the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s a unique performance of theatre al fresco as the show is presented on the patio of Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest.
