Avoid the temptation to hibernate this winter and have some fun in Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
Here are 25 events to add to your calendar for this February.
1. Elmwood on Ice - Elmwood Park
Dates: 2/1 - 2/12
There are only a couple weeks left to experience the fun of ice skating in Elmwood Park in the heart of Downtown Roanoke! Skate rentals are available for only $2 and there are also adorable seal skating aids for beginners.
2. Winterfest Beach Blast - Salem Civic Center
Melt away the cold with the 10th annual Winterfest Beach Blast at the Salem Civic Center. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and the event will feature the music of Band of Oz, which was recently enshrined in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
3. Mipso - Harvester Performance Center
It will be a special night of bluegrass as North Carolina string band Mipso performs at the Harvester Performance Center. The band became known to bluegrass fans with its debut album Dark Holler Pop in 2013, and continued to cultivate its unique sound and identity with the release of Old Time Reverie in 2015.
4. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland - Attic Productions
Dates: 2/3, 2/4, 2/10, 2/11
Take a trip down the rabbit hole with Attic Productions as its youth ensemble presents Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. There will be six performances between February 3-11, great opportunities to support the vibrant local community of young artists in Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
5. Roanoke County’s Tons of Fun - Tanglewood Mall
The kids will love spending a Blue Ridge Day at Tanglewood Mall for Roanoke County’s Tons of Fun event. There will a variety of activities, including clowns, puppet shows, music, magicians, games, craft activities, caricatures, and more spread throughout the mall.
6. wazUPwidis - Urban Race & Stair Challenge - Downtown Roanoke
Ready to conquer Downtown Roanoke? The wazUpwidis Urban Race & Stair Challenge is an exciting race through downtown with a course that includes office buildings, parking garages and train yards. Created by Roanoke City Parks & Recreation & Mountain Junkies LLC, it’s one of the most unique races you’ll ever run.
7. Bourbon + Bacon - Taubman Museum of Art
It’s bourbon paired with unique pork dishes prepared by local chefs. What other information could you possibly need?! The event is part of the new Tastings at the Taubman series of events at the Taubman Museum of Art, which celebrates the art and craft of fine wine and spirits.
8. Circus Oz: “Straight Up” - Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech
Circus Oz is Australia’s National Circus and the “Straight Up” performance will be an incredible circus experience that features stunts, acrobatic performances, comedy, and a live band. It’s an amazing live show that has drawn critical acclaim around the world and it will be a thrilling two hours that captivates the audience.
9. Festival at the Ridge featuring Town Mountain - Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers
Enjoy a night of craft beer and live music at Festival at the Ridge featuring Town Mountain at Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers. Town Mountain is a band that offers a mix of energetic bluegrass and dance music drive, and the show will open with performances by Jody Ensor and Blue Mule. You must be 21 or older to attend.
10. Mountain Sweetness: Chocolates, Confections, Coffee & More! - Chantilly Farm Campground
Looking for something special for your valentine? Chocolate and confection vendors will offer a variety of sweet treats at Mountain Sweetness in the Barn at Chantilly Farm. There will also be crafts, jewelry, and other great gift options available for purchase.
11. Train Lovers’ Day - Virginia Museum of Transportation
If you love trains, you won’t want to miss the fun at the Virginia Museum of Transportation on February 11 for Train Lovers’ Day! The museum will offer special train rides, crafts, face-painting, and other fun activities for the entire family.
12. Edwin McCain - Harvester Performance Center
Known for hits like “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask for More,” Edwin McCain has produced hit songs for over 20 years. McCain brings his classic sounds to the Harvester Performance Center for a concert on February 11.

It’s cold outside, but things are heating up on the ice for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs! The professional hockey team continues to find its footing in its first year in the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Dawgs will host four home games at Berglund Center in February.
14. Wine & Chocolate at Chateau Morrisette - Chateau Morrisette Winery
Plan a romantic outing to Chateau Morrisette Winery & Restaurant for its Wine & Chocolate event. Guests will indulge in Chateau Morrisette wines specially paired with chocolates and other offerings prepared by the culinary team and local chocolatiers. Reservations are required.
15. The Wood Brothers with T Sisters - Harvester Performance Center
Soulful folk and Americana music will take over the Harvester Performance Center as The Wood Brothers and T Sisters take the stage for what should be a special night of music. Both bands have grown in popularity over the past couple years thanks to their authentic sounds and regular presence on various festival circuits.
16. Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles - Jefferson Center
Regarded as a world-class multi-instrumentalist and jazz musician, Cory Henry has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and collaborated with artists like Bruce Springsteen, P. Diddy and Nas. The Jefferson Center hosts Henry and the Funk Apostles on February 16 in a show made possible through the Jazz Touring Network program of the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation.
17. Hollins & Mill Mountain Winter Festival of New Works - “She Made Space” - Hollins University
The collaboration of Hollins University and Mill Mountain Theatre continues in its Winter Festival of New Works with a production of She Made Space - the story of Echo, a young intellectual American lesbian tourist in Paris at the turn of the century who follows the path of embracing her whole self.
18. The Last Five Years - Showtimers Community Theatre
Dates: 2/17 - 3/5
Off Broadway musical The Last Five Years is the newest production by Showtimers Community Theatre. The story centers around Cathy, a struggling actress, and Jamie, a rising novelist, and follows their five year relationship. The show leads the audience on a journey of love, loss, desperation, and hope.
19. Old Dominion - Berglund Center
Old Dominion, one of the hottest bands in country music, performs live at Berglund Center’s Performing Arts Theatre on February 18. Matthew Ramsey (lead singer) and Whit Sellers (drummer), two members of the five-person band, are from Virginia’s Blue Ridge and we’re excited to welcome them back to the region for what should be a fantastic show.
20. NEWSBOYS Love Riot Tour - Salem Civic Center
Salem Civic Center hosts the Love Riot Tour with Newsboys on Sunday, February 19, in a concert that will feature an all new theatrical experience. Nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and the winners of numerous Dove Awards, Newsboys has been one of the most popular bands in Christian music for over 30 years.
21. An Evening with Travis Tritt - Berglund Center
Country music icon Travis Tritt returns to Virginia’s Blue Ridge for an intimate, solo-acoustic show at Berglund Center. Fans will experience Tritt’s music and life in a unique way in a performance that’s highlighted by personal stories and connections to his musical influences.
22. ODAC Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championship - Salem Civic Center
It’s time to crown more champions in the City of Salem in Virginia’s Blue Ridge as the ODAC Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championship returns to the Salem Civic Center. The 17-member Old Dominion Athletic Conference is one of the largest conferences in Division III and fans will have the opportunity to enjoy four days of exciting college basketball.
23. MystiCon - Holiday Inn Tanglewood
MystiCon returns for its seventh year with a lineup that includes Sherilyn Fenn, Tony Todd, Jason Carter and many more. Attendees can participate in gaming, panels, workshops, autograph sessions and other activities in what has become one of the region’s best annual unconventional conventions.
24. Taj Express: The Bollywood Musical Revue - Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech
Taj Express features the sounds of India and Bollywood in a story that follows a woman’s journey of living in Europe and then traveling to her homeland. It combines cultures and generations in an incredible blend of exciting music, dancing, costumes and storytelling.
25. Sugaray Rayford Blues Band with Deva Mahal - Jefferson Center
You don't just hear the music of Sugaray Rayford. You feel it. The soulful blues musician performs at the Jefferson Center with Deva Mahal, a powerful vocalist and songwriter who is known for her energetic live shows and rich harmonies.
