Can you believe the holiday season is almost here?!

2017 has flown by and we’re excited to celebrate the holidays in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

It’s a great time of year for a late-fall getaway to the mountains as you can enjoy beautiful autumn weather, late fall color, and the many fun festivals and events taking place throughout the region. Now, you can even use the Amtrak train to get here!

Here’s a preview of 25 of the biggest events happening this November in Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

1. Amos Lee
Jefferson Center
November 1
Kick off the month at the Jefferson Center as Amos Lee takes the stage for a night that showcases his unique musical style of folk and soul with songs from his 2016 album, Spirit, and other notable hits. 

2. PLAY: Toys Reimagined As Art Exhibition
Taubman Museum of Art
All Month
The PLAY special exhibition at the Taubman Museum of Art brings out the kid all of us with a collection of installations, videos, sculptures, and other unique experiences featuring toy-like materials.

3. Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs
Berglund Center
Multiple Dates
Hockey is back in Virginia’s Blue Ridge as the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs have entered their second season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Cheer on the Dawgs as they take the ice at the Berglund Center for multiple home games during the month!

4. Salem Sox Beer Festival
Haley Toyota Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark
November 4
Beer at the ballpark? What a perfect combination! The Salem Red Sox host a beer festival on November 4 that will feature pours from various local breweries, food trucks, and live music.

5. Smith Mountain Lake Chili & Craft Festival
Bridgewater Plaza
November 4
Warm up as you sample your way through all the competitors who take part in this annual “chili cook-off” at Smith Mountain Lake. There are also numerous craft vendors offering local products and goods that make for fun holiday shopping.

6. Roanoke Mustache Ride
Downtown Roanoke
November 4
Dress up in costumes and ride your bike around Roanoke in style for the third annual Roanoke Mustache Ride. The ride includes stops at local bars and restaurants and the opportunity to meet some new friends.

7. Geek Mob Roanoke
Salem Civic Center
November 4
This family-friendly comic book convention at the Salem Civic Center will feature a costume contest, live music, activities, special guests and a festive scene.

8. The Time Traveler Pi-Miler Race
River’s Edge Sports Complex
November 5
This is your opportunity to step back in time! The Time Traveler Pi-Miler Race is a unique event that happens in the middle of the night when the time changes, meaning you’ll actually finish the race before you start.

9. Yo-Yo Ma & Kathryn Scott
Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech
November 5
World-renowned musician Yo-Yo Ma visits Virginia’s Blue Ridge for a performance at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech with British pianist Kathryn Scott.

10. The Magpie Salute
Harvester Performance Center
November 9
The Magpie Salute is a band that was recently created by former members of The Black Crowes that specializes in blues & Southern rock.

11. The Stocked Market
Berglund Center
November 10-12
Presented by the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley, The Stocked Market is an annual holiday shopping extravaganza that takes place at the Berglund Center for over three days and features nearly 150 vendors from around the country.

12. 2017 CIAA Football Championship
Salem Stadium
November 11
See which football team will take home the crown of CIAA Champion at the conference title game at Salem Stadium. You’ll also love the performances from the school marching bands throughout the game, including entertaining halftime shows.

13. Veteran’s Day Observance
National D-Day Memorial
November 11
Take part in the Veteran’s Day Observance event at the National D-Day Memorial and pay tribute to all those who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces.

Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech
November 12
The iconic Off-Broadway production of STOMP takes place at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech in what promises to be a night of unique sounds and rhythms. It’s an exciting show for all ages and a one-of-a-kind experience.

15. Michale Graves
The Vatican Bistro & Venue
November 15
Formerly a member of The Misfits, Michale Graves now embarks on his “Beginning of the End” solo tour and makes a stop at the new Vatican Bistro & Venue.

16. Justin Moore
Salem Civic Center
November 16
Justin Moore’s “Hell on a Highway” tour comes to Virginia’s Blue Ridge with a concert at the Salem Civic Center and the show is opened by Dylan Scott.

17. Lea DeLaria
Jefferson Center
November 16
You’ll recognize Lea DeLaria from her award-winning performance as “Boo” in Orange in the New Black, but the talented artist is also a comedian and jazz musician. Her show at the Jefferson Center will showcase her abilities as a musician.

18. Mannheim Steamroller by Chip Davis
Salem Civic Center
November 17
The music of Mannheim Steamroller is always one of the signature sounds of the holiday season and this performance at the Salem Civic Center will feature many of the classic orchestra’s songs and fun multimedia effects.

19. 9th Annual Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival
Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest
November 18
This year’s annual wine festival at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest estate will include tastings from 15 Virginia vineyards and wineries as you enjoy this beautiful property and Thomas Jefferson's love of wine.

20. Brew-HaHa!
Berglund Center
November 18
Get ready for an evening of laughs from stand-up comedians and craft beer from local breweries at Berglund Center for the 4th annual Brew-HaHa!

21. Drumstick Dash Family 5K Walk & Run
Downtown Roanoke
November 23
Join Roanoke’s biggest annual family reunion at the Drumstick Dash 5K in Downtown Roanoke on Thanksgiving morning. All proceeds benefit the local Roanoke Rescue Mission.

22. Buchanan Merchant Christmas Open House
Town of Buchanan
November 24-25
The historic Town of Buchanan is full of holiday cheer for the annual Christmas Open House, featuring holiday decorations, extended hours for local shops, Christmas caroling, and more special activities.

23. Fantasyland - Santa Sing-A-Long
O. Winston Link Museum
November 24
Come sing-a-long with Santa as part of the Fantasyland experience at the O. Winston Link Museum in Downtown Roanoke. Santa will tell stories, play music, and interact with kids for some holiday fun.

24. Christmas Parade
Downtown Vinton
November 30
We love our holiday parades in Virginia’s Blue Ridge and the Town of Vinton is the place to be on November 30 for its annual event! The town will celebrate with a tree lighting ceremony, live entertainment, and an appearance by Santa.

25. The Hackensaw Boys
Harvester Performance Center
November 30
The Hackensaw Boys return for what will be another great show in Virginia’s Blue Ridge with a concert at the Harvester Performance Center. Originally founded in Charlottesville, the string band is known for its Americana sound and fun live performances.
