It’s summer festival season in Virginia’s Blue Ridge! There are lots of great events on the calendar this month, including celebrations of our country’s independence, live music, craft beer, wine, and more!

Here are 20 events happening this July to add to your calendar! 

1. Buchanan Community Carnival

Town of Buchanan - Through July 7
This year is the 65th annual Buchanan Community Carnival in Botetourt County! Chow down on carnival burgers, fries, and funnel cakes, and spend the evening enjoying the rides operated by Coles Amusements, as well as live music and entertainment.

2. Dawg Dayz of Summer Pawty

Big Lick Brewing Company - July 1
Have you heard about the new Virginia law that allows people to bring dogs inside breweries? It goes into effect on July 1 and Big Lick Brewing Company is celebrating with a Dawg Dayz of Summer Pawty! Dog biscuits will be available and your four-legged friends are definitely encouraged to attend.

3. Salem Fair

Salem Civic Center - July 3-15
The Salem Fair is Virginia’s largest fair and has been named one of the Top 100 Fairs & Expositions in the country. The event operates for two weeks at the Salem Civic Center and is known for its popular rides, kid-friendly activities, live entertainment, and delicious fair food.

4. 4th of July Fireworks Celebrations

Various Locations - July 2-4
There are lots of opportunities to check out 4th of July fireworks in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Multiple communities in the region will be hosting Independence Day celebrations and events that include a fireworks display. 5. West Station Block Party

West Station Downtown Roanoke - July 7
Don’t miss this fun-filled block party in Downtown Roanoke’s West Station! Big Lick Brewing Company, Tuco’s Taqueria Garaje, and Beamer’s 25 are collaborating together in this free event that will be a fundraiser for Angels of Assisi, a local community pet clinic. The block party will be a day of great live music, kids activities, a silent auction, pet adoption, and much more. 

6. RIDE Solutions Poker Ride

Ride begins in Grandin Village & ends at Martin's Downtown - July 10
If you’ve never taken part in a poker ride, the 2018 RIDE Solutions Poker Ride is your chance! The ride begins at the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op in Grandin Village and then includes stops at five local businesses where you’ll collect a card. At the final stop (Martin’s Downtown Bar & Grill), those with the best 5-card hands will win various prizes. 

7. Junior Ranger Month

Booker T. Washington National Monument - July 11, 18, 25
Introduce your kids to local history by having them take part in Junior Ranger Month at the Booker T. Washington National Monument. Programs will be held every Wednesday (July 11-25) from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and junior rangers will learn about Booker T. Washington’s early life, explore the park, and learn about the National Park Service.

8. Deschutes Street Pub

Elmwood Park - July 14
Deschutes Brewery is bringing its popular Street Pub event back to Elmwood Park in Downtown Roanoke for the third consecutive year! A variety of Deschutes Brewery beers will be served from over 50 taps, and there will also be food & beer demonstrations, a full afternoon and evening of live music, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

9. The Horse & Hound Wine Festival

Peaks of Otter Winery & Orchards - July 14
The Peaks of Otter Winery & Orchards offers a beautiful setting for the annual Horse & Hound Wine Festival. In addition to serving a variety of Virginia wines, the festival includes unique activities like the Parade of Horses and muskrat racing, as well as numerous art, craft and food vendors.

10. The Black Dog Country Music Festival

Chateau Morrisette Winery - July 14
This year, Chateau Morrisette’s Black Dog Country Music Festival is headlined by Hudson Moore and Little Feather - both recently headlined by Rolling Stone in its list of "10 New Country Artists You Need to Know." Get ready for a Blue Ridge Day of country music and award-winning Chateau Morrisette wine!

11. Tractor Treasure Day

Tractor Treasure Day - Troutville Town Park

Troutville Town Park - July 14
The kids will love getting to see tractors and trucks from various decades on display at the Tractor Treasure Day in Troutville’s Town Park. The event will also include live music, free ice cream, and a tractor parade.

12. Concerts by Canoe

Twin Ridge Recreation Area on Philpott Lake - July 20
A floating music stage and a floating audience?! Bring your own canoe, tube, kayak, or paddleboard and float alongside the stage where the Five Mile Mountain Band will be playing music on Philpott Lake! Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event and an awesome way to experience the combination of outdoor recreation & live music in Virginia’s Blue Ridge!

13. Bud Light Downtown Dilly Dilly - Josh Turner, RaeLynn, Jordan Davis

Elmwood Park - July 21
Berglund Center presents the first ever Bud Light Downtown Dilly Dilly - a concert in Elmwood Park featuring live music by Josh Turner, RaeLynn, and Jordan Davis. Turner is a multi-time Grammy & Country Music Award nominee, and RaeLynn became one of country music’s brightest young stars as a contestant on The Voice.

14. Reggae By the River

Buchanan Town Park - July 21
Three reggae bands will jam out on the banks of the James River in the Town of Buchanan for the Reggae by the River event. Kids will love playing in the special Kid’s Zone area, and you’ll definitely want to check out the tie dye station where you can create your own tie dye shirts.

15. Virginia’s Blue Ridge Spartan Kids Race

Green Hill Park - July 21-22
Kids will run, jump, and conquer the epic obstacles of the Virginia’s Blue Ridge Spartan Kids Race! This two-day event at Roanoke County’s Green Hill Park features specially designed obstacle courses, healthy food, and other ways to encourage kids and families to adopt healthy lifestyles. 

16. FloydFest 18 - Wild

Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 170.5 - July 25-29
Visitors from all over make their way to the region for FloydFest, which has been named one of the best music festivals in the country. Located near the Blue Ridge Parkway, the festival is a celebration of music, art, creativity, and the beauty of our natural surroundings. This year’s music lineup is headlined by Foster the People, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and Old Crow Medicine Show. 

17. Nice Work If You Can Get It

Attic Productions - July 26 - August 10
The newest production by Botetourt County’s Attic Productions is Nice Work If You Can Get It - based on the book by Joe DiPietro. This comedy focuses on a rich playboy who has a crazy bachelor party and can’t remember anything about it, including the woman he meets and the 400 cases of moonshine she stashes.

18. Summertimes Barrels, Bottles & Casks Tasting Tours

Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest - July 27-28
Learn about the history of Thomas Jefferson and his beautiful Poplar Forest estate while also sampling beverages that Jefferson and the enslaved people on the property would drink during the hot summer months.

19. Roanoke County’s Touch-A-Truck

Green Hill Park - July 28
This year is the 10th anniversary of Roanoke County’s Touch-A-Truck event! Held at Green Hill Park, this free event provides companies and organizations the opportunity to interact with the community while letting children see, touch, and learn about their vehicles, which include fire trucks, bucket trucks, monster trucks, SWAT vehicles, and many more.

20. Taste of the Trails

Montvale Park - July 28
Get a taste of the trails at Montvale Park and then enjoy some awesome craft beer & BBQ from Beale’s! The event will include a 5k race and two mountain bike races - one for beginners and another for more advanced riders. Following the races, head to Beale’s in Bedford for the after party!
