Stagg Bowl is More Than Just a Football Game

The 40th Annual Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl will kickoff at 7 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 14, at Salem Stadium and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.  No. 1 ranked University of Mount Union will play No. 3 ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) for this year’s NCAA Division III National Football Championship title.

In its 20th consecutive season in Salem, the Stagg Bowl is more than just a football game.  "From the time the teams arrive, to the time they take to the field, the week is full of events to heighten the excitement before game day," said Carey Harveycutter, Director of Civic Facilities, City of Salem.

In conjunction with the gridiron battle, the Salem Civic Center Arena will host the Gagliardi Player of the Year Award Presentation, Dec. 12 at 7:15 p.m., tickets $25; the Spotlight on Champions Dinner, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m., tickets $25; and the Pre-game Reception, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m., tickets $20 per person.

The Star Country Tailgate Party will begin at 4 p.m., three hours before kickoff, and feature Craig Campbell, whose self-titled debut album included Top 20 hit singles "Fish" and "Family Man," and Roanoke’s new modern country band, Rutledge. Performers will take the stage at 5 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center. The concert is FREE and open to all fans.

Come out and welcome the teams, families and fans!
Tickets for the game and all events are available at the Salem Civic Center Box Office or by phone at (540) 375-3004.
