The Nutcracker’s beautiful music, lush scenery, and lavish costumes perfectly complement E.T.A. Hoffmann’s timeless story. Patrons of all ages will have their imaginations sparked as a Christmas tree grows to huge proportions, mice and soldiers battle, and snowflakes whirl through falling snow.  Children will adore seeing candies and sweets from exotic lands come to life, and they will especially enjoy the gigantic Mother Ginger as she plays with her many gingerbread children.

Join Southwest Virginia Ballet for their 20th production of The Nutcracker!  With the addition of new choreography and costumes, The Nutcracker is sure to delight families as this century-old story becomes part of their holiday tradition.  Southwest Virginia Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker brings neighboring communities together in support of the performing arts and also creates opportunities for youth to perform in the most well-known and beloved story ballet of all times, a dream come true for many local residents as The Nutcracker is a core part of the region’s Christmas festivities.  The cast includes the 57 members of Southwest Virginia Ballet’s junior and senior company as well as over 150 community members from the ages of seven through “adult”.  The extra cast members come from ten area school districts, six private schools, and home-school programs.  The casting also includes students from 17 local dance schools.

As part of our program Southwest Virginia Ballet Gives Back, SVB is pleased to offer free tickets to The Nutcracker to clients of human services organizations.  Staff members from these organizations can contact Dick.Willis@svballet.org to apply for tickets.
