Come have fun with Gross Science at the Science Museum of Western Virginia. Our September program promises to keep you and the kids talking for a month - using words you probably don't hear every day! Why does a scab help us heal, and what is it, anyway? Is mucus just something we get with a cold? And let's just say it: what are boogers and why do we have them at all? It's Gross Science and it answers questions that we all have but don't usually talk about. We say, "So what if your little ones giggle?" They'll remember for a lifetime the "straight on" truth of "Gross Science!" We'll also examine some things that disgust us in the natural world, looking at the myths ("snakes are slimy!") and mysteries (how moldy bread saves your life) of things that make our skin crawl.

The Museum opens at 10:00 a.m., and program will be included with regular Science Museum admission. Adults $6, Seniors $5, and Children 3-12 years $4. Children younger than 3 get in FREE! The Museum has interactive exhibits for all ages, including weather exhibits, geology exhibits, light, color and sound exhibits and the "Bridge of Fire." The museum is located in the upper level of Tanglewood Mall across from Belk.

About the Science Museum of Western Virginia
The Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia. It was founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers. The Museum moved into Center in the Square in 1983, where it occupied the 4th and 5th floors. While Center in the Square completes its renovation project, the Science Museum can be found at Tanglewood Mall. The Science Museum of Western Virginia is among the fewer than 5% of museums in the U.S. nationally accredited by the American Association of Museums.
