Sampling different seasonal fall beer is one of the best parts of this time of year. The local breweries in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia's Blue Ridge join the fun with some unique brews that capture many of the classic flavors of autumn, including cinnamon, pumpkin, and Oktoberfest beers.
The region is emerging as a destination for a beercation, and with eight craft breweries, beer tours, numerous beer events, and Virginia's Blue Ridge Beerway, we encourage you to make our delicious craft beer part of your experience.
If you're visiting this fall, here are some of the seasonal brews you'll get to enjoy.
Big Lick Brewing Company - Saison Automne
The Saison Automne is a dark saison brewed with pumpkin in the mash and Billington's Dark Brown Molasses sugar that was added in the boil. Try it during your next visit to Downtown Roanoke's only microbrewery.
Chaos Mountain Brewing Co. - Muddy Boots American Brown Ale | The Legless Horseman Pumpkin Ale
The Legless Horseman Pumpkin Ale is brewed from pumpkins grown by a local farmer in the region. The pumpkins were roasted at the brewery and then combined with pumpkin pie spices to give the beer its rich flavor. This amber ale can be found on draught at the brewery.
The Muddy Boots American Brown Ale is a hearty brew that's perfect for fall. The malt provides a nice balance to the American hops, and you'll notice a citrus nose and flavor.
