What? An annual 4th of July celebration featuring music and fireworks.

 

When? Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Concert begins at 8:00 p.m. Park opens at 5 p.m. for picnicking and pre-show activities including food concessions and face painting.

No pets, personal fireworks, political promotion/advocacy or grills allowed. Smoking is highly discouraged!

 

Where? River's Edge Sports Complex (also called ‘River's Edge',) Roanoke, Virginia. (South side of the Roanoke River along Wiley Drive. Wiley Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic all day July 4.)

 

Who? Event is produced by Jan Wilkins and co-sponsored by Carilion Clinic, Berglund Automotive and The City of Roanoke.

 

Cost? None. Event is free.

 

Music? Featured band is Signature Soundz from Greensboro NC. They celebrate the sounds of Earth, Wind and Fire and other big bands from the 1980's and forward.

 

Fireworks: By Pyrotecnico, 9:30 PM, co-sponsored by Kroger, WDBJ7 and The Roanoke Times.

 

A wide variety of refreshment concessions will be offered and picnic baskets and lawn chairs are permitted. There are no permanent seats at River's Edge.

 

There is no parking area at River's Edge Sports Complex. Access to the event is by foot or shuttle bus. Shuttle bus service is provided from 5:00 P.M. on a continuing, non-stop cycle, until all patrons have been returned to their point of origin. The soccer fields located on the Reserve Avenue side of the river are off-limits because the area is a fallout safety zone for the fireworks display.

 

SHUTTLE BUSES will operate to and from 2 locations: the Williamson Road downtown parking garage (Williamson and Franklin Roads) and the Virginia Western Community College parking lot, Colonial Avenue at McNeil Drive. All buses are handicapped accessible and riders may bring chairs and coolers onboard.

 

 

Note: There is no rain date for the concert but in case of rain on the 4th the fireworks will be displayed at 9:30 PM on July 5th, weather permitting.
