MARGINAL ARTS FESTIVAL TSUNAMI
- March 24-29, 2014
Roanoke, VA. -
Marginal Arts Festival is just two weeks away! This year (Roanoke's seventh MAF) the festival will offer 28 workshops, host dozens of artists, include 8 exhibitions, and present 16 events. MAF has partnered and received assistance from a huge array of local institutions, organizations and city offices, such as Center in the Square, The Taubman Museum, Ride Solutions, Valley Metro, PARK Roanoke, 101.5 the Valley's Music Place and the Roanoke Arts Commission.
Events include a performance by Virginia Tech Linux Laptop Orchestra, MAF PechaKucha Night, live video mixing performance by Motomichi Nakamura at the Taubman, a performance of Dada Artist Kurt Schwitters' "Ursonate" and of course the festival signature conclusion of the Marginal Arts Festival Parade and Absurdist Carnival.
Exhibitions will include curated exhibitions featuring typography, traps, spiritual meditation, photography and aesmic visual poetry and work from contemporary Russian Avant-Garde artists. Participating artists will travel to Roanoke from Washington DC., Ohio, Maine and Cornwall, England. Two British performance artists have just arrived to participate in a MAF sponsored artist residency, where the artists will interact with the local arts community, and continue to strengthen the international ties that have been established between Roanoke and other countries.
The Festival officially opens Thursday night March 27 with a street party on Market Street. This is the MAF you will really not want to miss!
A festival guide will be available the week of the festival at 108 Market Street
