Roanoke, Virginia (August 6, 2013) - On September 8, 2013 you can once again take a step back and step to the tunes of Dick Clark's American Bandstand at Tanglewood Mall (held at the end of the mall near JC Penney) from 1 PM to 5 PM. Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Richfield Retirement and Generation Solutions will transport grandparents and their families back to Dick Clark's American Bandstand era with our fourth annual Grandparent's Day celebration. The day will be complete with live music by the "40 Years After Band" and contests galore reminiscent of the period from 1956-1989. Be sure to grab a complimentary hotdog, moon pie and cheery coke to complete this festive occasion.

Pull out your favorite mini skirt or leisure suit, bell bottoms or platform shoes and enter our Most Authentic Costume and Most Authentic Twosome contests. If you prefer a bit more action enter the Twist, Monster Mash or Hula Hoop contests. During this special day you can share your memories and help them to come alive for your grandchildren. So bring your camera, your family and your fond memories as you embark on this journey to a simpler time.

At this year's fourth annual Grandparent's Day, we will have three special guests. Their heads might be a bit bigger than normally remembered but they indeed are still celebrities. Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr. and a previous American Bandstand performer Kenny Rogers will be at the event. These special guests make this year's Grandparent's Day a unique experience that guests will long remember!

A hardworking and dedicated committee will be lending their support to this free event so we can promise you a day filled with beautiful and lasting memories. All activities are free thanks to the sponsorship of Generation Solutions, Richfield Retirement, and Roanoke County's Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Moon Pies and Cherry Cokes compliments of United Healthcare. Special thanks to our media sponsor WDBJ 7.
