The Patrick A. McMahon Tourism Ambassador Award: Danny Beamer & Chris McClellan - VBR Star
The Tourism Ambassador Award is presented annually to an individual or individuals for their outstanding efforts, dedication, and support toward the promotion of the region and its many tourism attributes. Danny Beamer and Chris McClellan recognized an opportunity to align with the region's brand - Virginia's Blue Ridge - by changing their well-established soccer club from Roanoke Star to VBR Star. This award recognizes them for their outstanding leadership and commitment in support of Virginia's Blue Ridge.
Golden Star Award: Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), represented by Ray Varney & Brian Blevins
The Golden Star Award is presented to an individual or organization in recognition for outstanding service and commitment to facilitating economic growth in the tourism industry. Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge would like to recognize the Virginia Department of Transportation Salem District for their support of our regional wayfinding plan and for being a good steward in support of tourism. We recognize VDOT for their seat at the table and realizing the importance of economic development for the region.
The Past Chairs' Tourism Excellence Award: Brian Wells - The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center
The Past Chairs' Tourism Excellence Award is presented by the company's past chairs as recognition of an individual who exemplifies leadership, service, and commitment to the tourism industry in the Roanoke Valley and even the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is a recognition of an individual's lifetime achievements in developing and promoting our great industry.
This year's award recipient is Brian Wells, General Manager of The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. He's overseen innovative projects such as adding a new electric valet cart and bike fix-it station, and helped the hotel earn the prestigious 4 Diamond rating from AAA. The hotel is also a recipient of The Connie Award - the highest award for all brands across Hilton, signifying the "best of the best" for each brand within Hilton Worldwide.
