Located in Downtown Roanoke, the recently renovated Elmwood Park is one of the premier outdoor event facilities in the region and a great place to visit during a Blue Ridge Day. It's located within walking distance to downtown Roanoke's market area and is a popular spot for visitors looking to enjoy the fresh air of Virginia's Blue Ridge. Since the park’s creation, it has been a gathering place and a green space. In 1913, an editor for the World News wrote “People of Roanoke bought Elmwood for a park, a playground and a breathing space.” In the early decades, tennis courts brought in crowds for tournaments, as did the bandstand for weekend concerts. There was even a pond with the requisite ducks. The new amphitheater in the park can accommodate approximately 2,000 spectators and the stage is around 5,800 square feet, making it a unique and inviting atmosphere for local and nationally known acts.
