Mill Mountain Zoo is among a distinguished group of approximately 250 other zoos that are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo is home to over 170 animals from almost 90 species, 21 of which are vulnerable species. As part of the Species Survival Plan for a number of vulnerable and endangered species, Mill Mountain Zoo has had 43 live animal births in the past 15 years.
Mill Mountain Zoo offers a variety of children and family programs and camps. Join us the 3rd Saturday of the month, May-October for Breakfast with the Animals. This registration based program allows families in early for breakfast, a keeper chat and themed activities. Mill Mountain Zoo also offers Spring Break and Summer Camps for children 4-13 years of age. These highly popular and well-attended camps occur every year. Mill Mountain Zoo is also available as a rental for evening events, weddings, receptions, company parties, etc! We also offer a children's birthday party package and group rate admissions for groups of 10 or more. Please call to inquire further or to schedule a group visit.
Mill Mountain Zoo is open year around! During the spring, summer and fall the zoo is open 7 days a week from 10-4:30. During the winter months, the zoo is open Thursday-Sunday from 10-4:30. Adults: $7.50 plus tax; children 3 & up: $5.00; children under 2 are FREE. Discounts: AAA, Senior Citizens (55 or older), Military & AZA Members. Mill Mountain Zoo also has a 16 gauge miniature train that travels the Zoo's circumference--Zoo Choo tickets are $2 per person

Take Exit 143 / I-581 South to Downtown Roanoke Take Exit 6 / Elm Ave. off I-581 (220) Turn Right at the end of exit ramp onto Elm Ave. Past hospital - Left at second light onto Jefferson St. Turn left at fourth stop light onto Walnut Ave. Walnut Ave. goes up Mill Mountain - Becomes Parkway Spur Rd. At top of Mountain turn right at the Mill Mountain Park Sign Zoo is located to the left of parking area. We are located right next to the STAR.
