Science Museum of Western Virginia

The Science Museum will feature Tutankhamun: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh's Tomb from June 14, 2014 through January 4, 2015.

This dazzling collection of reproductions of Tutankhamun’s legendary treasures recreates the richest archaeological find of all time by Howard Carter. Ten years in the making from the artisans of the Pharaonic Village in Egypt, the popular touring exhibit depicts the life and times of one of history’s most legendary kings through 124 faithful replicas of King Tut’s sacred and personal possessions, including his state chariot, golden shrines, beds, thrones, jewelry, magnificent funerary mask, mummy case and royal mummy.

The reinvented Science Museum reopened May 18, 2013, following a dramatic $30 million renovation of its home in Center in the Square. The museum now features the Living River & Touch Tank, tropical butterfly garden, and interactive exhibits, including the all new FROGS!, as well as an innovative Open Lab and a dedicated space for preschoolers.

The Butterfly Garden
The crowning jewel of the reinvented Science Museum, the Butterfly Garden offers the opportunity to interact with live butterflies from around the world – some with wingspans of 8 inches! – in an enclosed picturesque setting of lush plants and more than 20 species of orchids.
