| The Roanoke Valley has an array of indoor and outdoor venues that attract state and national organizations. The Roanoke Valley and, specifically, the City of Salem, also called the City of Championships, host numerous sporting events, including over 50 NCAA Division III Championships to include: football, softball, basketball, lacrosse and volleyball, as well as the NCAA Division II Softball and Lacrosse Championship.
Virginia Amateur Sports has called the Roanoke Valley “home” for the Coventry Commonwealth Games. For 20 years, Virginia’s premier amateur sporting event, a multi-sport festival of Olympic and non-Olympic style events, has utilized numerous venues to host over 45 sports.
Our location and ease of access combined with the multitude of hotels within close proximity to playing sites (gymnasiums, baseball and softball fields, and soccer fields) make us "a natural place to play." Experienced tournament directors and facility managers and their ability to obtain sponsors and volunteers are a major contributor to the success of the sporting events.
